This was a lackluster game between two teams with no real distinctive style, so I can't say I paid too close attention to it, until the end when Argentina started making some slip-ups in injury time. In injury time, Japan found Kinga wide open at the upper right corner of the penalty area, with acres of space to settle and take a shot, which she put right on the ground right into the path of the slumping Argentine keeper. Unfortunately, as in many of these games, the keeper gave up a rebound as the ball dribbled back out of her arms, and the Japanese were the most alert in crashing the box, with Yuki Nagasato finishing it off. Continuing another theme, Nagasato headed a Miyama free kick into the post, barely missing putting Japan up 2-0, which could be critical, since England and Japan are likely to end up going down to goal differential to determine who advances out of their group along with Germany. And really, if they can't put away Argentina, the Japanese don't belong in the next round anyways.
Japan 1 – 0 Argentina
'90+ Nagasato
